The
Spitfires A-Team ventured up to Bisley today for their opening fixtures
of the InlineGB season. With three new experienced signings this
season (Bradley Wallis, Matt Cleary, Michele Rossi) combined with the
old guard, expectations were high. On the menu today were the
Dunstable Gators and South Wales Sharks. It probably took a
period of hockey to calm the new look Spitfires in to their routine but
the opposition were soon chasing ghosts with the Spitfires retaining
most of the possession in both games. Michele made a big impact
in the first game with four goals and Bradley proved too much to handle
on numerous ocassions in both games. Dominic Lion was solid in
defence and once he'd adjusted his sights he picked up a hattrick in
the second game. Ryan Burgess created serious confusion with
those silky hands of his and Adam Wood was generally shit, I mean,
played with his usual determination and enthusiasm. Even the old
guy picked up three points! Man of the Matches should probably go
to both Matt on his debut, not just for his five points, but for his
relentless terrier-like performance and very nice top shelf slapper
over the goalie's shoulder and by no means least Branden Mittra in goal
for two very solid and consistent performances with goals mostly
conceded from 'defensive misjudgements'. Final winning scores 7-5
(Dunstable Gators) and 7-4 (South Wales Sharks) which could so easily
have been far greater margins.
